The Open Water Diver Course is the most popular course in the diving industry. This is the first level of certification in scuba diving.
This Program is designed to provide comprehensive training to those who wish to become SCUBA divers. This program emphasizes the skills and knowledge needed to develop a safer novice diver with a great sense of confidence and responsibility.
This program qualifies you to dive to a maximum depth of 70 fsw (21 msw) in open water, accompanied by other divers of at least the same qualification, without supervision of a Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or Instructor. The diver may dive to a maximum depth of 100 fsw (30 msw) if guided or supervised by a Divemaster or Instructor.
This program qualifies a diver to participate in diving activities where appropriate diver support is always available at the surface, where in-water decompression stops are not required, and underwater conditions are equal or better than the conditions where he/she was trained. If diving in conditions significantly different from those previously experienced the diver shall require an appropriate orientation.
Upon completion of the Open Water Nitrox Diver Program, the diver may dive any EANx mixture from Air to EAN 40.
If accompanied by an Instructor, an OW Diver or OWND may gain progressive experience beyond these parameters and develop competency in managing more challenging diving conditions. Once certified you will have the credentials to dive anywhere in the world.
The Open Water Course is divided into three parts: five academic classes, 5 confined water classes, and four open water boat dives. The academic portion involves self-study, classroom discussion, quizzes and a final exam. Confined water includes watermanship assessment and an opportunity to practice skills in shallow water. The open water portion of the course includes four dives to beautiful coral reef sites by boat.
