Discover Scuba Diving (Resort Course or Supervised Diver)
Commonly referred to as the “Resort Course”, the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program at the Original Akumal Dive Shop introduces people to scuba diving in a highly supervised yet relaxed manner under the experience and professional guidance of its staff instructors.
New divers learn the basic safety concepts with a 20 minute audiovisual presentation in our classroom on how to put on their equipment and then swim around underwater in a closely supervised environment.
The course is divided into three parts; academics, confined water (in Akumal Bay) and open water. During the academic segment, you learn basic scuba concepts including how to assembly your equipment and equalizing air spaces.
After completing the skills practice session in our bay we proceed by boat to one of our shallow dive sites. Here you will experience scuba diving in an open water scenario and discover the Akumal reef.
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program takes place in the beautiful and quiet Akumal Bay, a perfect natural place for your first scuba experience. After 30-40 minutes in the bay under the supervision of our instructors, you will learn and master the basic skills that allow you to adventure yourself into the second largest barrier reef that is waiting for you at only 5 minutes away from the Akumal Dive Shop. In no time you will be enjoying of 40 minutes (average) of wondrous caribbean waters surrounded by tropical fish, turtles, eagle rays, hard and soft corals and such much life that uses the reef as their shelter and habitat. A dive instructor will escort you the whole time to ensure that your experience is safe and fun.
After trying scuba, many new divers may decide to repeat the experience and pursue getting certified by enrolling in a PADI Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver course. The desired result is to create excitement and encourage you for additional participation.
When certain requirements are met, new divers may earn credit toward PADI Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver certification.
